Mi-Voice Student – encouraging democracy participation
Mi-Voice Student is a secure e-voting platform that encourages students to participate in democratic events such as School Council elections by allowing young people to vote either on-line or by sending a text message.
"Personally I was impressed with Mi-Voice; I managed to get through the whole of year 10 in under an hour. I also observed quite a few of them trying to vote twice and being denied, which I was pleased about. The voter numbers came through promptly and the detailed results were very beneficial. The students enjoyed the experience and as they are now aware of the system it should make further votes equally enjoyable and manageable."
Darren McGinley – Pastoral Support Officer, Cefn Hengoed Community School
Benefits of electronic voting include:
- Increased access and participation due to the convenience of the voting mediums
- Improved security and validity of vote – each voter can only vote once
- Elimination of the need to distribute paper ballot boxes and supervise polling stations
- Reduced administration costs associated with the collation and counting of votes
- Elimination of miscounts and reduction in the potential for fraud
- Candidate manifestos available on-line
- W3C compliant system for maximum accessibility
"When we were looking for a tool to engage the Student Voice through the use of new technologies we felt like we had struck gold to find Mi-Voice, it is simple to use but secure and powerful and has enabled us to tap into every child's opinion via their beloved mobile phones and internet."
Paul Haigh – Specialist College Coordinator, Notre Dame High School
